  • Americans are losing confidence in their readiness for retirement - 63% of Americans were confident they were ready for retirement in 2001 versus 72% in the year 2000.
  • Eight percent of employers think their employees are well prepared to make informed investment decisions regarding their retirement assets.
  • The average test score of high school students on financial literacy tests dropped from 57.3% in 1997 to 50.2% in 2002.
  • The average contribution rate into 401(k) plans in the U.S. in 2001 was $3,662 - well under the maximum contribution amount at that time of $10,500.

  • Seventy-six million Americans, about 43% of the U.S. adult population, have been exposed to alcoholism in the family.
  • Almost one in five adult Americans (18%) lived with an alcoholic while growing up.

  • There are an estimated 26.8 million children of alcoholics in the United States.

  • Faith:

  • Every person in the U.S. ponders the source and recipient of his or her faith. It was estimated in 2001 that approximately 76.5% (159 million) of Americans identified themselves as Christians. Approximately 52% (83 million) of those "Christians" identified themselves as Protestant. The next largest category was Roman Catholic (24.5%).
  • In 1996, 33.9% of the world's population regarded themselves as Christians.
