Car cleaning in winter
During the colder months, it's not just the muddy and slippery roads that pose a problem for drivers, but also the salt used on the roads. The salt and the chlorides it contains can damage the paintwork and seals, and in the worst case, lead to rust. Regular car washes help prevent this. Here you'll find tips on tools and the necessary steps for a thorough exterior cleaning.
Tips for perfect cleaning in the cold season
- The paint:
Even the finest scratches in the paintwork, barely visible to the naked eye, can lead to rust when exposed to salt. Regular, thorough car washes are therefore essential. It's important, however, to maintain a sufficient distance from the spray nozzle. If the distance is too short, the paintwork can be further damaged. WALTER pressure washers offer the easiest way to remove salt, sand, and coarse dirt. - The underbody:
An underbody wash is advisable after the winter season at the latest. It's recommended to do this by hand using a steam cleaner. However, you should take care to avoid the openings in the underbody and the electronics. These areas should only be cleaned with compressed air. - The castles:
To prevent wash water from penetrating and subsequently freezing, you should seal the openings with tape. You should also regularly clean the seals of salt film and then apply a suitable conditioning agent to prevent the rubber seals from becoming brittle. - The tires:
To clean tires and rims, we recommend using acid-free rim cleaner, a pressure washer, and a soft brush to remove stubborn dirt. WALTER pressure washers are the easiest way to remove salt, sand, and coarse dirt. - The right finish:
Especially in winter, don't forget to dry your car after washing it. If you're drying it by hand, make sure there are no dirt particles or small stones on the paintwork or the cleaning cloth. Always dry windshield wipers, door gaps, seals, and door locks by hand as well. Finally, applying a sealant will significantly extend the lifespan of your car's paintwork.
Please note : If you want to clean your car at home instead of in a car wash, you must comply with legal regulations. Washing with chemical cleaning agents and engine washing are prohibited.
