Power generator

There are many different types of generators, including gasoline, diesel, and inverter generators. The advantages and disadvantages of each type will be explained in the overview below, helping you determine which generator is right for you.

What can a generator be used for?

First, let's look at the different applications of a generator. A generator can be useful in a wide variety of situations, whether in your own home, on a construction site, in a workshop, or even in the mountains. Basically, a generator is always helpful when there is no or a poor-quality power supply.
The generator is available on the power grid, meaning it can be used even during power outages. For example, if it has sufficient power, it can be connected to the household electricity supply or used solely for powering lights and drills on a construction site. Its applications are practically anywhere an independent power supply is needed.

 

Which generator is the right one?

At this point, the intended uses and tasks of the generator should be defined. If it will be needed in many different locations, a compact gasoline or inverter generator is advantageous, as these are often lighter and more portable. If it will be used stationary and fuel consumption should be as low as possible, a diesel generator is recommended. For generators that are used only very rarely and as emergency power supplies, those that run on special fuels such as alkylate gasoline are recommended. The individual devices and designs are defined below.

 

Inverter generator

The unique feature of an inverter generator is that the engine and generator are not coupled, as is typical with a standard gasoline generator. This means they operate at different frequencies, allowing for a more consistent power output. Engine and generator speeds are independent and fully controllable. This eliminates voltage fluctuations during continuous operation, as a motor always exhibits some degree of instability. What advantages does an inverter generator offer compared to others? Aside from its increased stability, an inverter generator is usually smaller, lighter, and more portable. It is specifically designed for mobile use. Despite its small, compact dimensions and light weight, it is very powerful and suitable for regular use.

 

Gasoline generator

Gasoline generators have their advantages in winter; their decoupled gasoline engine makes them particularly easy to start. Furthermore, they are significantly lighter than diesel generators and therefore easier to transport. Their design also makes them lighter than diesel engines. Compared to inverter generators, they are often equipped with four-stroke engines and are therefore more powerful. If the generator is only used occasionally or as an emergency power supply, it is highly recommended to run it on alkylate gasoline, as this fuel can be stored for a very long time (up to two years) without separating.
